Saturday Night in the Suburbs
Saturday Night in the Suburbs is a parent awareness program of the Unified Prevention Coalition of Fairfax County featuring an evening of dialogue with a panel of high school seniors on drugs and alcohol use, teen parties, parent supervision and enabling, social media, and communication with parents. West Springfield High School's PTSA hosted this program at its school Wednesday, April 24 with UPC's Jennifer Lewis-Cooper facilitating the event (see event flyer). Lake Braddock High School's PTSA held this program on Wednesday, May 1 with UPC Executive Director Diane Eckert as facilitator (see flyer). These events are open to any adult in the community.
The South County High School PTSO has cancelled its program originally scheduled for April 18.

Congratulations to the Class of 2012 and their Families
Make this a special time to celebrate their accomplishments. Encourage students to take advantage of their school's All-Night Graduation Celebration, a tradition in Fairfax County schools that has kept students safe by providing an alcohol- and drug-free gathering for graduates.
Each high school's All-Night Grad night is supported by fundraising efforts and donations from its local community. The Unified Prevention Coalition of Fairfax County makes a contribution to each All-Night Grad committee by providing $300 in first-class stamps and a case of copy paper to assist in their communication efforts.

It's prom and graduation season -- a time for celebration that is too often marred by the frequently fatal consequences of illegal underage drinking. One bad decision can result in tragedy for the young person, as well as his or her family, friends, and our entire community.

"Perils of the College Drinking Culture” Forums Set for 2013
Fairfax County college-bound students and their parents are invited to take advantage of attending together one of four regional "Perils of the College Drinking Culture" forums set for 2013. The highly acclaimed program of the Unified Prevention Coalition of Fairfax County (UPC) kicked off Jan. 17 at McLean High School, and additional programs are set for May and July. The forums aim to prepare families for what students will face at college related to underage and binge drinking.
